Bairnsdale Library

Project Type: New Building
Building Type: Standalone
Completed: 2014

Bairnsdale Library was completed on 30 March 2015 and opened its doors to the public on 10 April 2015. The project was a respectful blend of the old heritage building (Mechanics’ Institute Hall) and a new building. Having outgrown their old space in the heritage building, Bairnsdale set out to expand their library in order to create a community meeting space where people could meet, study, learn, relax, and connect in a welcoming space. This new and updated space has created a vibrant, well-used community hub and allowed the library to increase programming to include regular movie sessions and IT based workshops.

Key Features:

  • 3 large meeting rooms for use by community and council departments
  • a blending of heritage spaces with a modern building
  • large forecourt civic space
  • junior play area
  • an additional entry/exit
  • reading room
  • new lounge space with a kitchen, coffee area, and tables
  • laptop balcony
